Michael Thorne, of RE/MAX Little Oak Realty, is best known for his role as co-host of Mobile Agent TV, a Google Hangout show on which he and fellow RE/MAX Agent Dave Fauquier interview various real estate industry professionals.
With a strong focus on digital content as it relates to the recent culture shift, Michael was recently nominated for Inman’s Most Innovative Broker/Agent Award.
Q: What about Genuine Hustle are you most looking forward to?
Michael: We are the sum of the people we spend time with, and it’s in these smaller, open and sharing-focused conferences that I find so much value. I’m looking forward to spending time with some incredibly smart people in the industry, sharing ideas, and working together to constantly improve! I’m infinitely curious—if there’s one asset I have, it’s that I”m curious—and so to surround myself with people like that is a huge win for me!
I love multi-branded conferences—I come from the RE/MAX world which is a huge machine and there’s a lot of strictly RE/MAX conferences that I get to go to and speak at. But it’s in these multi-branded conferences that there’s especially a great deal of exposure to people doing things differently, which is something I love!
Q: What will you be speaking about at Genuine Hustle?
Michael: I’m going to be talking about the power of video when it comes to showcasing your community and showcasing your expertise. Video has played a huge role in our business in the last five years and the barrier of entry to video is very small. We’ve become the digital mayor of our community over the last five years or so, and video has played a huge role in that evolution. The huge win really is shining the light on other people and leveraging their audiences to help build your brand—a brand people know, like, and trust.
I’ve been doing this for 24 years now and we’re going through an enormous change. There a lot of agents who think the best of times are over, and I really think we’re just coming into the best of times. Now we have these tools to help us become larger than the real estate transaction, and I really think that’s where the huge win is.
Q: Why are you excited to come to Tacoma?
Michael: There are a couple of reasons! Obviously, the people who will be gathering in Tacoma are phenomenal. But it’s no hidden secret that Tacoma and Seattle are a couple of my very favorite cities in the world. I live just outside of Vancouver and it has a very similar flavor to it as far as the people go, and I think Seattle and Tacoma are just some of the greatest cities around!
Fortunately, I get to spend quite a bit of time in the area—whenever we have a weekend away, we head down the I-5 to Seattle and Tacoma (and sometimes even a bit further to the Great Wolf Lodge, the kids love that!). I love the people who are gathering and I love the city!
